🗳️ Get Ready for the Extraordinary GA – January 2025!

Hello ESNers! 🌟

It’s time to prepare for another milestone in the life of ESN International—our upcoming Extraordinary General Assembly (eGA) is set to take place online on January 23rd, 2025. This is where key decisions that shape the future of ESN are made, and we’re excited to keep you in the loop and hear your voices. Here’s everything you need to know!

🤔 What is the GA?

The General Assembly (GA) is the supreme decision-making body of ESN International. It’s where big moves happen: from voting on Statutes and Standing Orders proposals to electing members of the International Board (IB), Audit Commission (AC), and Arbitration Board (AB). Think of it as the ESN equivalent of a country’s parliament—but with a lot more teamwork and enthusiasm!

Each year, the GA gathers twice physically (Spring and Autumn), but this time, we’re meeting online for this special occasion.

🗳️ Who Votes at the GA?

The GA is all about representation. National Organisations (NOs) send their representatives to vote on behalf of their members. For ESN Finland, we have had a voting weight of 2.58% thanks to our 15 amazing sections.

For this eGA, I will proudly represent ESN Finland and cast our vote. If you have thoughts or input, now is the time to share them!

💬 What’s on the Agenda?

This eGA has some crucial proposals on the table. Here’s a sneak peek at the topics we’ll be discussing:

1️⃣ Amendment to Statutes: Introducing a Warning Procedure for Branding Compliance
This proposal formalizes how sections can receive structured warnings for not following ESN’s Corporate Identity guidelines, ensuring fairness and clarity.

2️⃣ Membership Fees: Clarifying the GDP-Based Inflation Adjustment
This amendment aims to make membership fee calculations transparent by officially linking them to GDP and inflation, balancing fairness across economic realities.

3️⃣ Voting Rights Reform: Proposal by ESN Germany
A revision of Article 39.3 to enhance clarity and democratic participation, ensuring voting weights and rights are determined and communicated transparently ahead of each GA.

4️⃣ Revised Board Task Descriptions
This proposal updates the International Board’s task descriptions to improve clarity, transparency, and alignment with actual practices. It aims to:

  • Help potential board candidates understand the roles better.
  • Strengthen the network’s understanding of the Board’s responsibilities.
  • Bridge the gap between ESN’s three levels and improve accountability.
